Strongly lensed cluster substructures are not in tension with ?CDM

چکیده

ABSTRACT Strong gravitational lensing observations can test structure formation models by constraining the masses and concentrations of subhaloes in massive galaxy clusters. Recent work has concluded that cluster are more abundant and/or concentrated than predicted ? cold dark matter (?CDM) simulations; this finding been interpreted as arising from unidentified issues with simulations or an incorrect understanding nature matter. We these hypotheses comparing observed subhalo maximum circular velocities vmax to predictions high-resolution Hydrangea simulation suite, which is based on successful EAGLE model. Above ${\sim}10^{11}\, \mathrm{M}_\odot$, simulated mass distribution mass–vmax relation agrees well observations, due presence baryons during tidal stripping. Similar agreement found for lower resolution IllustrisTNG300 simulation. In combination, our results suggest abundance concentration substructures not tension ?CDM, but may provide useful constraints refinement baryon physics simulations.

Substructures in hydrodynamical cluster simulations

The abundance and structure of dark matter subhalos has been analyzed extensively in recent studies of dark matter-only simulations, but comparatively little is known about the impact of baryonic physics on halo substructures. We here extend the SUBFIND algorithm for substructure identification such that it can be reliably applied to dissipative hydrodynamical simulations that include star form...

Strongly Meager Sets Are Not an Ideal

A set X ⊆ R is strongly meager if for every measure zero set H, X + H = R. Let SM denote the collection of strongly meager sets. We show that assuming CH, SM is not an ideal.

What if LIGO’s gravitational wave detections are strongly lensed by massive galaxy clusters?

Motivated by the preponderance of so-called ‘heavy black holes’ in the binary black hole (BBH) gravitational wave (GW) detections to date, and the role that gravitational lensing continues to play in discovering new galaxy populations, we explore the possibility that the GWs are strongly lensed by massive galaxy clusters. For example, if one of the GW sources were actually located at z= 1, then...

14011 + 0252 : a Strongly Lensed , Ultraluminous Galaxy , Not a Huge , Massive Disk

We used the IRAM Interferometer to detect CO(3–2), CO(7–6), and 1.3 mm dust continuum emission from the submillimeter galaxy SMM J14011+0252 at z = 2.6. Contrary to a recent claim that the CO was extended over 6.6 ′′ (57 kpc), the new data yield a size of 2 ′′ × ≤ 0.5 ′′ for the CO and the dust. Although previous results placed the CO peak in a region with no visible counterpart, the new maps s...

Keck spectroscopic survey of strongly lensed galaxies in Abell 1703: further evidence of a relaxed, unimodal cluster

Context. Strong gravitational lensing is a unique tool that can be used to accurately model the inner mass distribution of massive galaxy clusters. In particular, clusters with large Einstein radii provide a wealth of multiply imaged systems in the cluster core. Measuring the redshift of these multiple images provides strong constraints for precisely determining the shape of the central dark ma...
